NORTH AMERICAN SOCCER LEAGUE FILES FEDERAL ANTITRUST LAWSUIT AGAINST UNITED STATES SOCCER FEDERATION

The North American Soccer League (NASL) announced that it has filed a federal antitrust lawsuit against the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) in Brooklyn federal court.

The complaint alleges that the USSF has selectively applied and waived its divisional criteria to suppress competition from the NASL, both against MLS and against United Soccer League (USL). For example, under the USSF’s divisional criteria, there are European clubs that have successfully operated for decades that would be considered ineligible for “Division I” or even “Division II” status due to arbitrary requirements like stadium capacity and market size.

What are the implications of NASL's antitrust lawsuit against the USSF

Short term, the NASL seeks an injunction to allow it to continue operating with the Division 2 designation as the case goes to trial. That will allow the league to make plans with sponsors, players, and coaches for 2018.

Long term, the goal is much more ambitious. The suit wants the current set of standards to be thrown out and allow leagues to compete directly against one another.

"The goal here is to create an open market where the NASL is free to compete," said Kessler. "It's not just about keeping the Division 2 status for right now. That's just to enable us to survive. The case is about the long-term issue as to whether this is going to be a competitive market or not."

So long NASL, it's been god to know you...hello CPL.
Reports say the Eddies weren't even allowed to vote in the USSF lawsuit decision.
But, still not a peep from the FO.

Because they’re not going to comment on ongoing litigation. Not a shocker.

In new news: NASL apparently has letters of intent from 7 (!!!) teams to play in 2018 (well one starting in 2019)

The NASL has hit the nail right on the head, the antitrust lawsuit could not be more correct, this is an attempt by 28 MLS owners to dictate everything about soccer in North America, they want to destroy the european model that allows teams to grow, with a 160M franchise fee, there will be little oportunity for smaller market clubs. Its dirty and ugly, even if you don't like the league you should support the lawsuit.

The report wasn't that they weren't allowed to vote, as a member and owner of the league they had a right to vote so in the end chose not to.As they haven't committed to play in NASL in 2018 yet(since CPL launch of 2018 not certain yet) they were asked not to vote but could have.If CPL doesn't start 2018 Eddies will no doubt be back in NASL if they get the injunction in a few weeks like they're looking for.Wouldn't expect the FO to comment on litigation that's ongoing as Jed said.
